PROFILE PROFILE

Ontology provided an opportunity to further develop my signature Portrait series and create new abstract prints on aluminum in collaboration with StareReap. The resulting exhibition proved an experiment in expression as well as the physical properties of the materials themselves. For example, when working with oils, each layer of paint adds to the complex strata of intermingling color, transparency, and opacity. The materiality of my paintings has been deftly encapsulated in 2.5 dimensions through StareReap. As a study in contrast, I simultaneously experimented with the “flatter” properties of lithographs and silkscreens. Although these two mediums also entail an accretion of inked layers through repeated printings, the finished prints maintain an essential 2D quality. The lithographs and silkscreens have altogether different textures than my paintings and prints achieved with Ricoh’s StareReap technology. By presenting the results side by side, I hope viewers will be able to readily compare and see how each medium differs.
