PAST

RICOH ART GALLERY is pleased to present Image, Aroundscape, Particle, a solo exhibition by Kazuki Umezawa. In his practice, Umezawa builds collages from digital images that he sources online and then adds upon, creating art that traverses both the digital world and reality. The new works presented in this exhibition visually render a sense of digital “noise” and three-dimensional texture by using StareReap.* The printing technology accentuates the multilayered nature of Umezawa’s work, turning the exhibits into a series whose very essence offers new value.

Micro and macro. Digital and analog. Virtual space and actual space. RGB and CMYK. Umezawa shuttles on between such divergent binary worldviews until his works finally come to light. These exhibits synthesize ink at the particle level, and achieve an entirely new form of expression. When viewing these works overall as the accumulation of minute particles, we expect visitors to experience a sense of an overwhelming mass of data surging toward them.
This is the inaugural exhibition at RICOH ART GALLERY, which opens in April 2021. Visitors can enjoy fifteen new works showcasing the very latest exciting endeavors by Kazuki Umezawa.
